Late 2022, Rimowa invited us and Warm Weekend to take part in their "As Seen By" show to design a piece using their signature grooved aluminium sheet.
Thanks to a chance encounter with Ottim, a sheet folding metal factory based in the south of Berlin, and the support of Something Fantastic, we had the opportunity to spend one month in Berlin, as close to the manufacturing process as possible, attending the factory everyday.
This project tells the story of a strategical positioning, that managed to make different actors come together, in order to create the conditions for a project to exist, out of nothing.
We were allowed to investigate Ottim's highly skilled craftmanship and thus draw and conceive a purely fantasmatic yet functional object, that would integrate a deep understanding of the means of production. From this long collaborative process, that involved craftmans, workshop managers, engineers and comissioners, emerged "Aurevoir Marienfelde" a small aluminium boat, made for the pleasure of having a sunday ride with some friends. Picture show the rigourous industrial process that has been engaged, as well as the first time the boat was sailed, on 23/03/2023, in Wansee, Berlin.
